Cut and Solvent-Glue Plastic Pipework

The plastic pie has become the pie of choice for nearly all plumbing tradesmen these days, as it is so very easy to work with. The cutting of this style of pipe is carried out all the time and used for example by professionals such as trained Pinner Plumbers to facilitate plumbing repairs and installations. To start with get the length of plastic pipe required by measuring between the bottoms of the fitting sockets. Use a felt pen to make your mark on the pipe. Tube cutters (for plastic) will make the cut fast and neatly. You may need to visit a local plumbing merchant to get one of these cutters. A great tool to cut pipes made from plastic is called a power miter saw. It has a fine tooth woodworking style blade or a plastic-specific blade carried as standard by an Eastcote Plumbers, who can sort any plumbing problem.A ratcheting plastic-pipe cutter can cut smaller diameter PVC and CPVC pipe if there is a hurry. When plumbing a whole house you may want to think seriously about buying one. Burrs should be taken off ends of plastic pipe. Mark the depth of the fitting sockets on the pipes and then clean up the ends of these pipes and fitting with some emery paper. Use plastic pipe primer on the pipe ends and also in the fitting sockets. Now stick the joints by applying a thick coat of solvent glue to the pipe. Spread a thin coat of solvent glue to the inside surface of the fitting socket. This type of glue will harden in around 20-30 seconds. Quickly locate the pipe and fitting so that the aligning marks are offset by around 2″. Strongly press the pipe into the fitting until the end fits against the bottom of the socket. Spread the solvent around by turning the pipe until the marks line up. Take off the excess glue with a cloth and leave the pipes still for at least 20-30 minutes to guarantee a good solid fit.
