Renew a Flush Valve

Below is a guide to renewing a flush for a WC:1). Isolate the water supply using the stop valve fitted on the tube that supplies water to the cylinder, then flush the toilet and clean out the remaining water with some cloths. 2). Undo the water supply coupling nut from the bottom of the cylinder. If you are not confident you can call a Pinner Plumbers who are trained on all equipment. 3). Undo the bolts holding the toilet cylinder to the pan. If you are having difficulty unscrewing the tank bolts and nuts, use penetrating type oil or and try again. Unhook the chain from the handle. Put the tank down on an old towel. Remove the spud washer and spud nut from the base of the flush valve using a spud wrench or large pliers. 4). Take out the old valve. Put the new flush valve in the valve hole and check the top of the overflow pipe is 1″ below the tank level marking and the opening where the handle is located. Position the flush valve below the handle lever arm and secure it to the tank from beneath with the spud
nut. Tighten the nut one half turn past hand tight with a spud wrench or large channel type pliers. Over tightening can cause the tank to break ( Eastcote Plumbers will sort all problems and carry all the right tools). Put the new spud washer over the spud nut, small side down.5). Lay the tank down and put the correct washers on the tank bolts and put them it into the holes from inside the cylinder. Thread a brass washer and hexagonal nut onto the bolts from below and tighten them a little more than hand tight. With the hex nuts now tight, lower the tank over the bowl and set it down so the washer sits neatly over the water inlet in the bowl and the tank bolts fit through the holes in the bowl flange. Secure the tank to the bowl. 6). Re-connect the water supply at the filling inlet. Fix the chain clip to the handle. Re-attach the refill tube onto the top of the overflow pipe.Turn on the water supply at the stop valve and test the flush, and look for any leaks.
